A new benchmark for commercial developments in Auckland

55 Corinthian Drive is a four-level office building comprising a mix of office, food and beverage, and retail space. Included in the complex is a five-level car parking building with a distinctive circular access ramp. Highly visible to the surrounding road network, the development harnesses the site’s visual prominence, meeting the client and tenants’ expectations while positively enhancing the built quality of Orchard Park within the Albany Gateway. As a Green Star Level 5 rated building, sustainable strategies are exhibited throughout the development.

Throughout the design process, Ignite worked with a sustainable ethos in mind. This allowed the whole consultant team to align with the project’s sustainability vision and manage their own disciplines, creating a sense of ownership and responsibility to every individual that worked on the project.

“55 Corinthian Drive achieves a high standard of amenity for occupants and creates a distinctive built form in a highly visible location.”

The central atrium connects the two uses—a car park building and collegial working environment—into one space. The simplicity of materiality and a restrained palette allows the building to further define its landmark position.

The car park’s perforated metal screen allows for natural ventilation, as well providing the opportunity for texture to be introduced. Sculptural fins cloak the circular structure, allowing the ramp’s form and movement to be acknowledged while enhancing the overall form with a dynamic response.

To improve social awareness and educate end users, the carbon footprint of the building and live-tracking of energy and water consumption is displayed on a prominent monitor in the atrium, catching everyone's attention that passes through the lobby.
