I believe that design is so much more than an exercise in form-making and good aesthetics. It must come from a rigorous and disciplined approach, combined with having a great deal of empathy with the end user. As architects, our goal is to deliver realistic outcomes. The design response needs to be integrated with innovation and commercial reality, and I think the best way to do this is by harnessing both the fresh thinking and the wealth of experience that comes from a multi-generational design team.
I’ve been in this industry for over 25 years. Thirteen of those were spent in China, where I gained an appreciation for high-density, mixed-use architectural solutions. I’ve also worked with global fortune 100 and 500 companies, including Apple, AECOM, and eWork.
Having a strong connection to the outdoors is important to me. It’s why I enjoy scuba diving and paragliding – they keep me close to nature. I also love travelling, both locally and internationally. It has an ability to enrich your perspective and expose you to new experiences.
