For me, the best design is honest, simple, and functional. I believe community buildings act as urban acupuncture – they are the catalyst for great learning and growing environments for our future generations. There are many challenges facing today’s architects. Chief among them is how we continue to work in producing great, innovative design solutions within a sector that has ever-growing constraints and regulations, and for stakeholders with conflicting needs. But I think that’s what makes our job so exciting – and such challenges fuel our creativity.
I have over 15 years' experience across residential, education, and civic sectors, which demonstrates my practical expertise in making a difference for our communities - and our clients. I value well-coordinated design for the human scale, which also has low environmental impact.
My favourite building is Louis Kahn’s Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. I love the restricted material palette, its rhythmic form, and how the shadow fills the space between. I think it is one of the best examples of classical, timeless, and modernist architecture.
