The design driver for Metlifecare Gulf Rise is to create a secure micro-community within Red Beach that draws the wider community into the village and encourages interaction between residents.
While the original master plan and Precinct One of Gulf Rise was completed by another architect, Ignite is leading the delivery of Precinct Two (comprising Stages 1-4), which has seen us revisit the master plan to maximise the potential of the site. Stage 1 of Precinct Two, which is due for completion in early 2022, will feature two apartment buildings and an amenities building, while Stages 2, 3, and 4 will include a care building and four new apartment buildings.

“Gulf Rise reimagines the retirement village stereotype with open spaces, buildings that bring people together, and a main street that extends out to the local community.”
The state-of-the-art amenities building at the heart of the development includes a heated swimming pool and spa, gymnasium, a wellness centre, and a bistro-style café that is open to the public. Residents will also be able to enjoy the bar, lounge, a library, multi-use spaces, and a hairdressing salon. Ignite worked closely with Urban Lounge Interiors, who have provided the loose furniture design and styling.
The outdoor areas around the building have been carefully curated by Boffa Miskell to provide tranquil spaces like covered terraces, ponds, and gardens. The development blends with neighbouring streets and amenities, drawing the community into the village and creating a vibrant, connected precinct.
An innovative prefabrication methodology has been harnessed in the construction of Precinct 2. In Stages 1 and 2, apartments will feature prefabricated balconies, and apartments in Stages 3 and 4 will include prefabricated bathroom pods. While offering the client a high level of quality, prefabrication significantly reduces the construction programme – an important consideration when undertaking construction in a live village environment.
